my first software is a copycat of Marc Lou's shipfast...
yap... that's right i copied @marc_louvion on my very first public software
TL;DR: I have always wanted to build stuff and now I have the time for that. I loved Marc Lou’s ShipFast boilerplate idea to be able to ship fast and worry about what really matters when you are building, but I hate Next.JS… I am a Python guy, so I turned into Django boilerplates and found nothing worth paying for… So I built my own 😁
my mind is always buzzing with ideas, but between juggling university and freelance work, there was barely any time left for personal projects. I found myself constantly having to choose just one thing to focus on… and for the past five years, that’s exactly what I did.
the problem? that one project barely makes me any money 💸
so I guessed it was time to change my strategy:
I wanted to ship fast 🏃♂️
I wanted to validate my ideas quickly ⚡
I wanted to upgrade as I go 🔄
I’ve recently finished my Master’s Degree which left me with a lot more time to work on my little project ideas that were stored in Google Keep for weeks… months… and some YEARS! 😅
I decided to focus on my freelance work as a main source of income and refused to go work a 9-5 so I can finally have so time and freedom to try to make this sh*t work 💥
Marc Lou is one of the creators who really inspired me to start building more, shipping fast, and validating ideas through sales and feedback. The whole idea is to focus on the projects that matter and not waste years building something no one’s going to use. 🙃
I loved the ShipFast boilerplate that Marc Lou created, but imma be honest… Next.JS just isn’t my thing. 😅 I’m a Python guy 🐍
so I started looking for some Django boilerplates to use, but honestly, the ones I found were either way too expensive 💸 or way too complicated 🧠. and let’s be real, I didn’t need anything that fancy. so I figured… why not build my own? 🤷♂️ and the cool thing is, by building this custom boilerplate, I can now reuse it with my personal favourite tech stack, and make it better as I develop new stuff. Kinda like leveling up with every new project I build 💪
oh, and if you’re curious, I made a short video explaining the whole process. Check it out if you want to see the journey in action 🎥
